Quenching / Tempering

Our quench and temper process ensures that bars are individually heated to the quenching temperature in a computer controlled austenitizing furnace. When our bars travel through the furnace, they are continually rotated to provide even exposure to each phase of the heat treatment cycle. Moving directly from the austenitizing furnace, the bars enter an encircling (360 degree) water quench. This rapid quench creates a uniform hardness range throughout the length, circumference, and cross section of the bar. After quenching, the bar moves to our tempering furnace where the computer controlled tempering system enables us to meet our customers’ mechanical properties.
